Welcome to Give Children A Voice Minimize

Providing Knowledge, empowering parents, advocating for children

Give Children A Voice is in the process of filing for Non-profit Status.  The goal of the organization is to empower parents by providing knowledge, resources and support to equip parents to advocate for their child in obtaining educational and support services.  Educating parents on their rights and how to maneuver through the systems required to deal with when raising a child with special needs is the ultimate goal of the organization while providing support and encouragement.

Brandon is the driving force behind the organization.  Read more about Brandon’s Story.

Advocating For Your Child In The School System Minimize

Developing IEP’s, understanding your rights, learning how the system works, knowing your child’s rights can be an overwhelming and daunting task.  Parents can best advocate for their child when they know and understand the law and what your child is entitled to.  The links below will provide you with the information you need to maneuver through the IEP process and how to best advocate for your child.

On 12/5/2006 WBTV News in Charlotte, NC did a short story on how parents of special needs children have ot fight for every need from the school system.  This story focused on Brandon's fight in particular, although virtually every family of special needs children has gone through a similar battle.

In Brandon's situation, his primary form of communication is sign language, however the school system has not seen it necessary to place anyone in his school that knows how to communicate using sign language

In early December, 2006 Karen Walsh published the following article about the struggles that parents of special needs children have to face with the school system.
